I am in the elementary group... My question was which of the words/phrases from the reading is handout should NOT be part of an elementary reading program and why?
I can see that you put some thought and research into this week's dialogue and I think that you did a great job. These are some questions that I have been pondering and I am wondering if you could give me some input. Do you think there are other ways to test comprehension on students other than taking tests? What if there are students that read well and comprehend the text well, but don't do well when it comes to taking tests? Should we make those students take the tests anyway and base their reading grade on them? Thanks. -Mayra
Do the tests show progress and what they are learning? These are the important questions to ask and answer? We have to understand the reading process well enough that we can assess the assessments for how effectively they do or don't assess students' reading abilities. Another question is, "How much emphasis should be put on assessment?" Interesting thoughts Karina.
I see the points you are making and some of them I agree with but others I have questions about as well. Do you think that a test will show the progress of a student who even does poorly on test? I ask this because i'm a very poor tester but don't feel that it shows my abilitiy and how much I really know. I feel as if this may not always show an accurate way of how a student is improving in reading and how far they have come. I think overall you make some interesting points. -Stacia
