Week 1 from Jessie

  1. Jessie,

My understanding of "what it means to read" was changed during week 1, also! I also agree that the reading and learning processes are intertwined and essentially inseperable. It is very difficult to imagine one without the other!

  2. Jessie,
I was also surprised by how much more was involved in reading than I had thought. Now that we all agree that reading and learning share the same processes, how can we as teachers support students in making all the necessary connections and the best use of those processes? I have an interest in teaching all subjects around one unit for example, where students can fully study an area. This allows them to more deeply comprehend relationships/connections and applications of what they are learning, and deepen its meaning.

  3. Jessie,

After the first week's assignment, I think I changed my understanding of the words read and say. I'm still not sure if I am correct, but look forward to finding that out. I also think that learning and reading go hand in hand.
