Thanks for bringing up the self selected reading. I agree it's the key to improving overall literacy. I also thought the point you brought up in the reading about content teachers thinking it wasn't their job to teach literacy as a little surprising. - Eric
"Reading is not recognizing words but making sense of things" I love that you brought this up- it didn't really call out to me until you said it. This statement is true no matter what kind of reading you are doing.
I like the emphasis you place on the importance of dedicating more time to self-selected reading in classrooms. I think this is becoming a common theme in a lot of our reading--the importance of enjoying reading, and how self-selected reading creates that opportunity.
