Group R-Week 4-Hilary

  1. I wonder: do you know your student well? Are you friends with her parents? Does she read to her parents? I ask because you said you were impressed that she had no trouble reading to you and with her parent in the room. I suppose it could be impressive, even if the answer to my questions is "yes." I don't know. I ask only to gain understanding as to your perspective. I am happy your student was such a trooper and even tried out the Spanish words.

On a side note: I hope you're feeling better!

    1. I actually don't know my student well - she's a student that is a member of the classroom I'm currently doing my pre-student teaching in. I just found it to be a bit of a surprise, because I've read with students before who seemed to have a great deal of anxiety reading to me, even though I'm closer in age to them then most teachers :)

  2. I was wondering how well you know your student, as well. Some kids really like to read and jump at the chance to read with others. This is especially true of kids who love to read but do not get the opportunity to do so at home very often. It's nice to find a kid who is not tired of reading and wants to read with you. It's refreshing.

  3. Wow Hilary, you sound like you should be drinking lots of orange juice:) I sure hope you are feeling better now. It is interesting to hear about your experience with your Running records and your student. She sounds like a pleaser:) I love it when kids jump at the chance to read, and it actually worries me when they don't want to read at that age. I think it's true that lots of kids would read more if someone would listen. Was she able to tell you the main idea or the details in the story at all?
