Week 4 Yodio-Heather Group A Working with my Learning Profile Student

  1. I like that you presented him with a variety of reading choices. Interesting that he was able to identify that he wasn't quite ready to read the classic piece yet.
I thought the article was very interesting, I enjoyed your exert and I think that it is very relevant. We often do give immediate feedback and it seems that sometimes young readers come to expect it. After thinking about it, it seems that we are then sending the message that they need to stop and we (the teacher) will verify that they are doing it correctly rather than let them construct their own meaning.
    Thanks!

  2. Heather,

It sounds like your student is off to a terrific start in becoming an outstanding reader. The fact that he was able and willing to sample different types of writing is a great sign that he has laid a great foundation for reading. I also found it interesting that he wanted to wait until he was better able to understand one of the novels. In my opinion, it shows that he is aware of and comfortable with his current progress as a reader. Interesting reflection!

  3. Heather,

It is encouraging to hear your student is a fluent reader! C.S. Lewis would be a difficult read for a 4th grader. It is impressive that he is reading at that level, even though he struggled with some words. I agree with your quote, but it is certainly a learning process for myself. I tend to try to help my son right away if he struggles with a word, I am trying to just let him read now. Good work.
