I agree with you that a variety of different writing/reading options is key to keeping kids interested in the process, and also gives them the opportunity to work on a bunch of different aspects of the process: writing on a set topic, practicing spelling/finding words, listening to a book on tape, etc. Writing doesn't have to be boring and repetitive, and you did an excellent job at highlighting the different ways of varying the writing experience.
I think you are right, having kids try different types of activities allows them to explore writing from different angles. I like that you linked creativity with the use of various structured activities designed to enhance writing skills. That's something I have been thinking a lot about this week with the Google docs activity we did.
Creativity and structure--I'm glad that you use those two words together. Many times teachers think you can't have structure when you are doing something creative. The opposite I find to be true. In order to be creative, a teacher has to be structured. You can to create organized structures to support creativity. Especially with writing workshop. The structures/systems that you put in place as a teacher can make all the difference.
